In the tiny Dunwoody Village off of Chamblee Dunwoody Road is a small Vietnamese restaurant called Com. There is another location of the same restaurant off of Buford Highway. If you havent heard of this place, dont worry. They dont do a great job of advertising.
Regardless of their marketing strategy (or lack their of) Com is an excellent establishment that does a great job with food and service. Com serves a cuisine of french/vietnamese fusion. What is that exactly? I don’t know because all the dishes seem pretty Vietnamese.
When you go to the Dunwoody location, you will be greeted by a very friendly host or hostess. There is rarely a wait for seating, which for the patron is a good thing. But the place will fill up by 8 or so.
Food talk. The appetizers at Com are really great. some of our favorites are the crab rangoons, egg rolls, coconut soup, and the Com salad. With the Com salad you can pick from a few different proteins to put on top; beef, pork, lamb, chicken, salmon, or flounder. Go with flounder, it’s fantastic!
As an entree I can really only speak to one dish, and that is the Bahn Hoi. These are self-made Vietnamese spring rolls. This dish will come with lettuce to wrap all the meat, noodles, and vegetables, but make sure you ask for the rice paper. Using the rice paper for the wraps is a ton of fun, and they are delicious. Ok, let me tell you how these spring rolls work. First you will pick a meat, get the lamb. Then you will be delivered a plate of the meat on top of noodles, another plate of sliced carrots and apples and cilantro and mint and leetuce, and a bowl of sweet and spicy dipping sauce, and finally a bowl of hot water. You will take the rice paper and soak it in the hot water until it is saturated. Then top the rice paper with all the mix-ins you like. Finally, roll the spring roll, dip it in the sauce, the cram it in your mouth. Not only is this a fantastic entree, it is a fun-tivity!!
If you are in the mood for dessert, I would get it here. My favorite dessert is the million dollar cake which is actually delivered from Alpine Bakery in Alpharetta. It is a three layer cake of cheesecake, chocolate cake and flourless chocolate cake. OMG this is amazing!! Or you can go with one of the crepes (I guess this is where the french fusion comes from). Last time we got the banana and nutella crepe. It was filled with vanilla ice cream, coconut, nutella, whcip cream, and topped with chocolate sauce. I loved it!!
Overall, if you are wanting a great meal that you probably havent tried before Com is your place. I am confident that you, like we have, will put this restaurant in your regular rotation.
